The LEC Playoffs are underway with the first round matchups. With Rogue versus Misfits going to Rogue in a 3-2 banger of a series, our attnetion is now turning to the second upper bracket match featuring MAD Lions and G2 Esports.
Let's take a look at how these two teams match up:

MAD Lions vs. G2 Esports

MAD Lions were our LEC Spring Split winners. They finished that split in third place with a 10-8 record, then went on to defeat G2 in the playofs on their road to a 3-2 finish over Rogue. During the Summer Season, they've improved to a 12-6 record and will need to defeat G2 at least once on their road to the grand finals.
G2, meanwhile, finished tied for first with Rogue and a 14-4 record in the Spring. It was Rogue who ultimately knocked them out of contention during the playoffs. This summer, G2 has sported a 12-6 record, the same as MAD Lions.
In head-to-heads this year, G2 has gone 3-2, but clearly MAD Lions won the one that mattered, taking the only multiple-game series in a 3-1.
G2 has won their last five matches, while MAD has won their last two. That streak started after a loss to G2 on July 30.
Our TrackLoL Team Rating puts these two teams extremely close together, with MAD receiving a 2210 and G2 receiving a 2264. This means that compared to the average professional League of Legends team, G2 Esports performs very slightly better than MAD Lions based on statistics related to how teams win games.
Vie.bet, our betting sponsor, has MAD at 2.09 and G2 at 1.65 (at the time of publication). This feels like a bigger gap between the two than our TTR suggests, but if we consider G2's strength historically, we can start to understand why the odds are a little bit in their favor.

What will happen next?

The winner of this series will face Rogue in the upper bracket, while the loser will drop to the lower bracket. Rogue's a fearsome opponent, but there'll be some time before
